Testimony in Support of Resolution 402-06 t`405 JUL 5 R~ 1~ For: Chairman Isbell and Finance Committee Members RE: Reso. 402-06 Aloha Councilman Pilago, I am writing in support of Resolution 402-06. 1 am presently in Canada on holiday, and ask that your office submit this email as written testimony in support of your resolution. This legislation is a long time in coming, and deserves the full council's support. Although Mr. Higa feels that either it is not too much to ask West Hawaii residents to go to Hilo for testimony, or that the video conferencing system is sufficient, as a reason to vote down this resolution. As a citizen of Hawaii County for some 30 years, I disagree. In terms of the distance to Hilo, it is 250 miles round-trip. It is the same distance to Honolulu roundtrip...and you have to pass Maui, Kahoolawe, Molokai, and Lani to reach there! Would citizens of any of the other islands be asked to go such distances to be in the same room with their councilmen, look them in the eye, and give heart felt testimony affecting their lives and future generations? I say not! This would go a tong way to addressing concerns by those citizens who are calling for the creation of a West Hawaii County. Without paying attention to the rising tide of concern by West Hawaii residents to issues important to them, such as this, the Hilo side majority will surely give rise to this movement to separate. In summation, this resolution is a genuine step to address concerns by West Hawaii citizens seeking to participate in their government in the same way that East Hawaii residents now enjoy. Please vote in favor of this timely legislation. Sincerely with Aloha, /s/ Stathie J. Prattas 83-5519 Middle Keel Rd. Captain Cook, HI 96704 Comm. No. Ref. To: Ft Ref: bate 1
