Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of the following people to the
Hawaii County Planning Commission:
• Malcolm R. Saxby of the district of Puna, to replace Eddie M. Alonzo
of the same district, whose term will expire on December 31, 1997.
Mr. Saxby is a 44-year resident of Hawaii, and since 1997 has been
the owner/manager of Puna Certified Nursery. He is a member of the
State Agri-Business Development Corporation, the Hawaii Export
Nursery Association, and the Keaau Maintenance Association. He is
presently a member of the Hawaii County Water Commission whose term
will end on December 31, 1997. He is a member of the Democratic
Party.
• Geraldine M. Giffin of the district of Kohala to replace Melvin
Martinson of the same district, whose term of office will expire on
December 31, 1997. Mrs. Giffin is a lifetime resident of Hawaii,
and since 1995 is self-employed as the Manager of Weekender Casual
Wear. Prior to that, she was an educator/instructor with the State
Department of Education (1965-1995). She is a member of the Waimea
Community Association and presently sits as a member of the Hawaii
County Board of Appeals, whose term will end on December 31, 1997.
Mrs. Giffin is a member of the Democratic Party.
If approved, both will serve terms to end December 31, 2002. Should the
Council require further information regarding this submission, you may call me
at your convenience.

RE: ATTACHED COMMUNICATION
Persuant to Section 1(e) of rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of
the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is
submitted in regards to Communication No. ,59.8__, regarding
the nomination of people to the Hawaii County Planning
Commission, waiving said referral from the Committee of
Planning in order that appropriate action can be taken by the
Council
