Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 924, reports as follows:
Communication No. 924, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated May 26, 2006, nominates
Ms. Joanne Balberde-Kamalii of Council District 3 to serve on the Hawaii County Civil Service
Commission.
A 43-yeaz resident of Hawaii, Ms. Balberde-Kamalii is currently employed by the State of
Hawaii, Department of Education as School Behavioral Specialist at Hilo High School. Ms.
Balberde-Kamalii is a present member of the County of Hawaii Status of Women and also a
past member of the County of Hawaii Family Violence Advisory Commission and the East
Hawaii Friends of Foster Families. Of no political affiliation, she will serve a term to end
December 31, 2005.
Pursuant to Section 7-1.2, Hawaii County Charter, the civil service commission shall consist of
five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council in the manner
prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Joanne
Balberde-Kamalii to the Hawaii County Civil Service Commission.
