Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 380-06, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 380-06, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication
No. 926, dated May 26, 2006, authorizes the acceptance of a donation from the Canines for
Kids, Inc.
The Canines for Kids, Inc., a nonprofit organization located in Burlington, North Carolina, has
graciously donated a search dog to the Hawaii County Department's Juvenile Aid Section. The
value of this donation is estimated at $8,000.
The trained canine, named "Katie", will be used to locate missing children primazily in the West
Hawaii area.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Mr. Mike Craig, Co-founder/President, Canines for Kids,
Inc., 4581B Tangle Ridge Trail, Burlington, North Cazolina 27217, acknowledging this generous
donation.
Officer W. Ah Mow III of the Hawaii County Police Department explained that Katie is trained
to search for adults as well as children.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 380-06
and recommends its adoption.
