Dear Mr'. Arakaki and Members of the County Council:
Z am Fred Galdones, Big Island Division Director for the ILWU, which
represents more than 6,000 active and inactive members who are also
members of the community at-large.
The ILWU submits the following Comments to Draft 2 of the proposed
ordinance to amend the Hawaii county Code relating to an affordable
housing policy for the County of Hawaii:
a) 6ection 11-dfal Requirements ~~,Rszon ngs Involving Resi-
dential Uses.
The ILwU is agreeable with the condition that a housing-
needs assessment study be made every ten (10) years to
establish the proper formula for affordable housing;
however, it shall not be less than 10~ for 10 or more
unite.
b) ~~Lon 11-8 Effect on Existinu Rec[uirenents.
2'he ILWU objects allowing any application that was approved
under the present affordable housing formula and conditions
to be allowed to have their formula and conditions be
reassessed for possible adjustments.
Among other projects, the ILWU y also concerned with the
CBrewer puueo housing project. The project included a
housing project in xulalmano. wc~ would like to be assured
that those terms and conditions do noC change.
We propose that these concerns be addressed in tho proposed affordable
housing policy.
