Re: Capital Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance adding the Mamalahoa Highway Improvement Project
(Mud Lane to Waimea Town) for $142,000 to the Capital Budget. Due to the excessive
cost for paving materials, the past project appropriations were devoted entirely to the
paving work; making funds unavailable for the needed striping work. This project,
involving the resurfacing of roadway from Mud Lane to Waimea Town, is very critical for
safe travel from West Hawai'i to East Hawai'i.

A. REQUEST:
Amend Ordinance 06-80, the Capital Budget by adding an appropriation for the Mamalahoa
Highway Improvements in the amount of $142,000.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
This request for $142,000 for the Mamalahoa Highway Improvement Project is a result of the
excessive cost for paving materials. Previous appropriations for $1,140,000 entirely devoted to
paving work and funds are not available for the needed striping work.
