Our members include: Antonia Veniona. !Michael Smith. Joyce and Richard Monskx and Jem Lehrich. w e have a petition requesting the continuation of the search for a new transfer station. VJe are. for a transfer station- We do not feel it is reasonable to put one in a residential area. The island population is growing. There is a need for a transfer station in the South Kona Kau area. The site started out as a single basic chute and container facility. The plan has expanded into an enhanced recycling center. There is an interest in putting, this facility inside the community of Ocean ti'iew. The parcel in consideration is lot TMK: 39' 150060. The purchase of this site is complex. It has four propem owners. The parcel needs to be subdivided to purchase the nine acres available from this _ 1.64 acre lot. This site is located in the immediate y icinitn of numerous households. The residences near this site will be ad\ersel\ affected. This station will haze a detrimental impact on propem \ alues to the tune of millions. There is no onsite county water available tier the parcel making, it unsafe to operate in a residential area. Proper sanitation will become a problem. How often w ill truckloads of water need to be delivered to properl% operate this station? This can become a x er} expensive facility to run. Rainfall is low making water catchments unfeasible. This site is located in a windN area- which can be hazardous as well. Should this recycling center go in there will be ample paper. plastic and green waste matter that can ignite endangering peoples lives. Vdithout count% water you have no control over an} catastrophe. Feral animals are a large problem in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. Thee make it unsafe to walk the streets. A transfer station in this area will be a major attraction for them. The\ will roam the streets in search of food becoming a traffic hazard and public health concern. Disease from these animals will spread through the immediate area. There is a bus stop across the street on lolani jeopardizing the safer of our children. Once again we stress the importance of putting, in this new facility far away from the community to secure the health and safety of the residents of Ocean View. !Management and control of this site will become a drain on the budget and not the best use of appropriated funds. W e have no medical building. hospital. pharmac}'. schools or library. Our senior citizens and children deserve a wholesome quality of life. These are services needed to live as a normal communitn. This will brine the much-needed employment into our lovek neighborhood. We would also like to submit two sites for consideration. TMK: 391001009. is a 4.391 acre parcel on state land located a short distance north of Ocean View. It is midway between w aiea and W aiohinu transfer stations. Depute Director ?nelson Ho expressed at a meeting in Ocean View June 8. 1006 that he could work with a lot size of 2 ' acres. We would like to resubmit TMK: 391-001069. owned by Linda Shun. This parcel is 1.000 acres. It is an ideal location a few miles south of the neighborhood. There are no nearby neighbors. I was informed there is a low acquisition cost and it is located on untouched bare lava. This site offers greater opportunities for expansion of the facility in the future. Wherever the new transfer station goes the count needs to rind an appropriate location at a reasonable distance away from residences. The neighborhood of Ocean View is. our back\ and and we would like to preserve its beaus and small town atmosphere for generations to come.
