RE: Testimony in Support of County Resolution No. 383-06
Aloha Chair Pilago and members of the Committee on Planning,
I am a life-long resident of Kona and am active In the community. I
am a member of the West Hawaii Fisheries Council, although I am
writing this letter of support as an individual.
An expanded marina is long overdue for Kona. Known throughout
the world as a sport fishing destination, the Kona coast is also a
destination that is sensitive to the sustainability of our ocean.
Jacoby Development has the ability to build a mixed-use marina
development that is environmentally strong, utilizes energy
efficiency and water quality protection.
In addition, the resort component will provide accommodations for
visitors looking for a unique experience on the Big Island and
provide the necessary income to provide needed public benefits
Including the new marina and a new road connecting Kuakini
Highway and Kealakehe Parkway through QLT lands.
The area surrounding Honokohau Harbor was in urban and resort
prior to February 2005 and this General Plan amendment will
restore what was taken away.
I encourage you to pass this resolution directing the Planning
Director to conduct a feasibility study of amending the General Plan
to include resort on this parcel of land.
