Cunsensus is that this developmont, aoz being proposed by Jacoby at the present time, is definitely NOT in the boot i.nteresL of Lhe community. It is subrtandard in size and maintenance by the ;tnrc. Instead, the hard-earned money seems to disappear into the "black hole" of the general funds in Honolulu. The public boat ramp at. Honokohau is in a deplorable state, overcrowded grid needs maintenance, there in, a waiting list for boat slipn, (there are boats for sale, but no place to put them), and even the docks used by the paying year-round Lenants of Gantry': become unavailable when vi.ni.ti.ng boar.,, from other islands come and pay Contry'.n, a ra;rnporary fee for overnight ntriyr.,. They need a marina in order to make thoir t.i.me-shares "ocean front", because they must build on n set-back of several hundred yards from the coastline. Mr.Hillestad told Bill and me directly, that our kind of business was what they ware Cord .ie. the marina, bccaune our tours would be bringing through potential buyers for their time-share units.
