A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO
A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, Ho`okani Pila (formerly Na Keiki `O Na `Ukulele) is an `ukulele class
under the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation's Culture and Arts
Division; and
WHEREAS, the students of Ho`okani Pila learn to perpetuate the `ukulele through
songs of old and modern day contemporazy Hawaiian music, as well as popular songs from
the 50's up to the present; and
WHEREAS, Ho`okani Pila has performed at many events, such as the County of
Hawai`i's Cherry Blossom Festival, the Culture and Arts Barefoot Hula program, the Mayor's
lighting of the Christmas tree, fundraisers for the Friends of the Zoo, Waiakea High School
Band Ice Cream Jam, the Lehua Jaycee's Springfest Carnival, Hilo Jaycee's County Fair, Kona
Elderly Care Homes, and many other public and private functions; and
WHEREAS, Ho`okani Pila has been invited to represent the Big Island at the 2007
`Ukulele Festival on Oahu on July 29, 2007, which will provide a wonderful experience for
the students to be a part of a large extravaganza highlighting the `ukulele, as well as the
opportunity to observe other `ukulele performers from throughout the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, funds are needed to help cover the expenses for airfare, ground
transportation, hotel accommodations, and other program costs for the 35 members of
Ho`okani Pila; and
WHEREAS, discretionary funds ($3,000) from Council District 3 will be
appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation's Culture and Arts Division to help
defray the cost for Ho`okani Pila to participate in the 2007 `Ukulele Festival on Oahu.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set
forth below:

OUT AND FROM:

010.500.5517.02 Department of Parks and Recreation $3,000.00

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with
the terms of this resolution.
