CALL TO ORDER STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON ITEMS ON COMM. 924: REFERRAL: Comm. 924: APPOINTMENT OF JOANNE BALBERDE-KAMALII TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION From Mayor Harry Kim, dated May 26, 2006, submitting for confirmation the nomination of Joanne Balberde-Kamalii of Council District 3 to the County of Hawaii Civil Service Commission. A 43-year resident of Hawaii, Ms. Balberde-Kamalii is currently employed as a School Behavioral Specialist with the Department of Education. Not affiliated with any political party, if confirmed, she will serve an unexpired term that will end on December 31, 2008. Comm. 922: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY (Bi11295) CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION), REAL PROPERTY TAXES, RELATING TO REAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS (by adding a new section to Article 10 allowing for tax exemut status to real property held by the Hawaii Island Housing Trust) From Assistant Corporation Counsel Gerald Takase, dated May 22, 2006, transmitting the above bill. The Housing Trust was created to manage property deeded to the County of Hawaii for affordable and employee housing. Comm. 923: TWO (2) MONETARY DONATIONS OF $100 EACH TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION TO DEFRAY THE COST OF SUPPLIES PURCHASED FOR THE RECREATION DIVISION'S HILO DISTRICT BIGGEST EASTER EGG HUNT BY MS. CANDACE FUKUDA-HANLE, PRESIDENT OF KANDI'S DRIVE INN AND BY WAYNE FUKUNAGA OF FUKUNAGA ELECTRICAL, RESPECTIVELY; AND A MONETARY DONATION OF $25 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION TO DEFRAY THE COST OF SUPPLIES PURCHASED FOR THE PUNA DISTRICT KA`U EASTER PROGRAM OF PAHALA COMMUNITY CENTER BY BANK OF HAWAII - KA`U BRANCH From Finance Director William Takaba, dated May 26, 2006, requesting approval of the above donations from various organizations on the Big Island for the use of specific Parks & Recreation Programs. Comm. 926: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE DONATION OF A (Res. 380-06) SEARCH CANINE TO THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT (from Canines for Kids Inc.• estimated value of the doQ with equipment is $8,000) From Finance Director William Takaba, dated May 26, 2006, requesting approval of the above donation to the Hawaii County Police Department's Juvenile Aid Section. The trained canine, named "Katie" will be used to locate missing children primarily in the West Hawaii area. ADJOURNMENT The meeting place is accessible for persons with disabilities. Submitting Testimony: Those persons wishing to testify in person or by videoconference must register with the County Clerk's staff. Those testifying in person and submitting written testimony at the meeting in Hilo should bring sixteen (16) copies of the testimony for distribution at the meeting. Those testifying by videoconference from the Kona or Waimea Council Offices, should bring one copy of the testimony. Those persons unable to testify in person or by videoconference may submit testimony (1) by mail to the County Clerk's Office in Hilo at the above address, (2) by facsimile to (808) 961-8912, or (3) by e-mail to counciltestimony~c~co.hawaii.hi.us. Please submit a separate written testimony for each item. Copies will be made and distributed at the meeting when transmitted in a timely manner. In any case, both oral and written testimony will be made a part of the public record. Notice to Lobbyists: If you are a lobbyist, you must register with the Hawaii County Clerk within five days of becoming a lobbyist {Article 15, Section 2-91.3(b), Hawaii County Code}. A lobbyist means "any individual engaged for pay or other consideration who spends more than five hours in any month or $275 in any six-month period for the purpose of attempting to influence legislative or administrative action by communicating or urging others to communicate with public officials." {Article 15, Section 2-91.3(a)(6), Hawaii County Code} Registration forms and expenditure report documents are available at the Office of the County Clerk-Council, 25 Aupuni Street, Hilo, Hawaii 96720.
