Re: Bill No. 308 (Bill for an Ordinance to Initiate a Charter Amendment Relating to Bifurcating the
Planning Commission into an East Hawaii and West Hawaii Planning Commission
Dear Chairman Higa:
As discussed at the July 18, 2006 Planning Committee meeting, and pursuant to your suggestion, please
accept this letter as formal written request to call a special meeting of the Council, pursuant to Hawaii
County Rules of Procedure, Rule No. 2, Section 2, Special Meetings.
Also, in accordance with said Rule No. 2,1 respectfully request that the date, time and place of the special
meeting(s) be announced prior to the adjournment of the regular meeting of the Council being held at the
Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa on July 19, 2006.
It is my understanding that the requisite three council readings and action on the Resolution setting forth
the proper ballot language must be completed on or before the August 23, 2006 Council meeting in order
to meet subsequent submittal deadlines of forwarding the approved ballot question to the Chief Election
Officer and, publication of the full text of the Charter amendment in two newspapers.
I await prompt notification by written memorandum as to scheduling, pursuant to Rule 2, Section 4, and
thank you for your consideration and assistance in moving this important matter to the voters of Hawaii
County.
