RE: Renaming the Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo to "Pana` ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens"
Attached is a proposed bill to amend chapter 15, article 8, section 15-68.1, Hawaii County
Code, relating to the parks and recreational facility schedule.
There are many plants, trees, palms, and shrubs throughout the zoo that have been donated
and/or maintained by various organizations in the community. Changing the name from
Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo to "Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens" will better reflect the
composition of the zoo, as well as recognizing the tireless efforts of the many volunteers who
have turned the zoo into what it is today.
The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation and the Friends of the Pana`ewa
Zoo, a nonprofit organization, is in full support of changing the zoo's name.
I would like to request that this proposed bill be waived to the next Council meeting scheduled
for August 23, 2006. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
es Y. akaki, Council Member
