FRIENDS OF THE PANA'EWA ZOO
A Non-Profit Organization
July 23, 2006
Councilman Arakaki

Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Dear Councilman Arakaki
I am writing to say mahalo for introducing legislation to
change the name of our Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo to add "and
Gardens".
We have all worked very hard, especially the last 8 or 9
years, to become the pride of Hilo nd our great island of
Hawaii. We are purchasing many interesting animals and enclosures
and we, along with the Plant Societies and other interested
individuals, have made the Panarewa Rainforest Zoo (and
Gardens) a tropical delight for residents and tourists to
enjoy. We have been very successful and receive generous
donations so that we may keep our Zoo and Gardens free of
charge that all may enjoy the animals and beauty. We have
many families with 5, 6 or more children that would not
be able to come to the Zoo if we charged even a nominal
entrance fee but they drop their nickles and dimes in our
Wishing Well to show their mahalo. The many residents show
their appreciation by supporting all our many activities
and we have a dedicated and exceptional Board of Directors
and Zoo Docents that donate their time and energies in making
the Zoo a wonderful experience for all.
We appreciate your efforts on our behalf and we look forward
to seeing you at the Zoo.
Mahalo,
Donna Thomas, Vice President Comm. No. IDIQ.
