SUBJECT: Resolution Opposing the Commencement of Service of the Hawaii Superferry at
Kawaihae Harbor Until Economic, Social, and Environmental Concerns Are
Addressed
Enclosed is a Resolution opposing the proposed commencement of service of the Hawaii Superferry
at Kawaihae Harbor until economic, social, and environmental concerns are addressed.
This resolution requests that commencement of operations of the Hawaii Superferry be postponed,
pending preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes
Chapter 343 and pending construction of necessary improvements at Kawaihae Harbor to adequately
accommodate current harbor users and the Hawaii Superferry. This postponement is necessary to
ensure the preservation of the welfare of the people and of the environment of the County.
