The BIG ISLAND BUSINES CO[JNCIL supports the County Counci] in their
examination of automatic ratses for govemment workers While we understand that the
process was followed, the economic climate m the county and the state has changed and
we all need to show fiscal responsibility. The Bib Island Business Council is an
orgamzation of 1 1 business organizations ufio have banded together to improve the
economy of the Big Island 2nd to insure that our infr:n;rructure needs are met. We
provide education From a business perspective
We feel that ~+e can work with the govemment emplo.;ee unions improve the quality of
life and employment as weN as enhance Hawaii County's economy. We did not see them
in support of irradiation, of forestry, or of other economic generators which would
provide jobs and income for the people who are not employed by the public sector We
welcome them to join wrath us work toward economic improvement.
The Governor's Economic Task Force mandates ttF bier hells for all of us so we know
that we must make some very tough decisions and the these must be consistent. Thank
you for your courage in calling to our attennnn that itis is the first time anyone has
questioned the public sector pay ratses.
