This letter records that the Vacationland Hawaii Community Association's Board of
Directors is aware of the decades old attempt to protect and preserve our precious marine
resources by eliminating the primary source of pollution: residential wastewater.

Conservation District to protect the island's "nursery" therefore prohibiting the fishing,
taking, possessing, damaging, endangering all marine life within the prescribed 50 acres.
Ironically, not much has been done to require lot-owner responsibility in partnership to
support the effort of conservation and proper stewardship of a valuable natural resource,
home of native endangered species such as the escalated rare Hawaiian monk seal and the
leatherback, green sea or hawksbill home Our MLCD is a highly popular and heavily
visited site, impacted equally by local residents and visitors. Obviously the health issue
extends beyond the marine life and comes full circle to its source - our own wastewater.
Wastewater includes household runoff of organic nutrients and chemical wastes such as
detergents and pharmaceuticals, and Kapoho Kai Water Association has been proactive in
educating our water subscribers, reaching out to State and County officials regarding
enforcement of existing laws, yet unable to cope with enforcement of this ideal.
We acknowledge that this problem creates both moral and financial imperatives for
which we as community homeowners and leaders require assistance of our elected
officials to support and respond effectively in this urgency.
Thus, we are wholeheartedly compelled to support Kapoho Kai Water Association's
quest in eliminating cesspools in the Kapoho coastline residential area, including our
sister community Kapoho Beach Lots subdivision as well as Kapoho Vacationland
subdivision and support the resolution before the county council.
