Mf V O( <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> 'V>( os •N(~• <br /> RESOLUTION NO. ~ ~ ~ ~ <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO <br /> <br /> AN AGREEMENT WITH WAIAKEA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, PURSUANT TO <br /> HRS 46-7, FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROMOTING ALTERNATIVE <br /> <br /> THINKING STRATEGIES (PATHS) CURRICULUM <br /> WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney have been awarded Title V: Incentive <br /> Grants for Local Delinquency Prevention Program federal funding through the State Office of <br /> Youth Services for the implementation of a community delinquency prevention program that <br /> addresses bullying prevention; and <br /> WHEREAS, early and persistent anti-social behavior was identified as a priority risk factor in <br /> Hawaii County; and <br /> WHEREAS, the community delinquency prevention program was offered to each school <br /> complex and Waiakea Elementary School has agreed to participate in the Promoting Alternative <br /> Thinking Strategies (PATHS} curriculum; and <br /> WHEREAS, the PATHS curriculum facilitates development of self-control, emotional <br /> awareness and interpersonal problem-solving skills and reduces aggression and behavior <br /> problems; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county departments <br /> obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments <br /> respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and <br /> receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken <br /> pursuant to those powers. <br /> <br />
