~tv w."'ITII~i~~ <br /> 'Y~ <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> e.•~~'' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. ~ <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br /> WHEREAS, the year 2006 mazks the 100-year anniversary of the arrival of the first Filipino <br /> immigrant workers, or Sakadas, to Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, the year-long celebration of Filipinos in Hawai `i - 100 Years and Beyond, will <br /> culminate with a "Filipino Fiesta" on November 4, 2006 at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis Stadium; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Big Island Filipino Community Council and the Hawaii Island Filipino <br /> Centennial Committee plan to use the requested funding for the following events: <br /> 1. Fun Run/Walk -The Fun Run/Walk will kick-off the day beginning at 7:00 a.m. along <br /> the Hilo Bay front area. <br /> 2. Parade -start time 9:30 a.m. to travel along Hilo Bay front and to include all districts of <br /> Hawaii County with floats, marching bands and marching units of the various Filipino <br /> Organizations and Communities. <br /> 3. Filipino Fiesta - a day-long fiesta celebration to be he?d at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis <br /> Stadium to include displays of arts, crafts, clothing, musical instruments, photo exhibits <br /> and other demonstrations of the rich history and practices of the Filipino culture. <br /> 4. Recognition of Sakadas (Filipino Laborers) -All living Sakadas of the plantation era will <br /> be invited along with their descendants to be recognized for their contributions to the <br /> overall culture Hawaii County exhibits. <br /> 5. Plantation Daze - a bit of "everything plantation" will be shared through pictures, <br /> displays and memorabilia along with the opportunity to "talk story" with the `living <br /> ?egends Sakadas'; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hamakua Filipino Centennial Committee, via the Big Island Filipino <br /> Community Council, has requested funding assistance in the amount of $4,000.00 for these <br /> specific program events; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Reseazch and Development has concurred that it will <br /> accept the transfer of these monies for that express purpose. <br /> <br />
