RESOLUTION NO. ~
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the year 2006 mazks the 100-year anniversary of the arrival of the first Filipino
immigrant workers, or Sakadas, to Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the year-long celebration of Filipinos in Hawai `i - 100 Years and Beyond, will
culminate with a "Filipino Fiesta" on November 4, 2006 at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis Stadium; and
WHEREAS, the Big Island Filipino Community Council and the Hawaii Island Filipino
Centennial Committee plan to use the requested funding for the following events:
1. Fun Run/Walk -The Fun Run/Walk will kick-off the day beginning at 7:00 a.m. along
the Hilo Bay front area.
2. Parade -start time 9:30 a.m. to travel along Hilo Bay front and to include all districts of
Hawaii County with floats, marching bands and marching units of the various Filipino
Organizations and Communities.
3. Filipino Fiesta - a day-long fiesta celebration to be he?d at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis
Stadium to include displays of arts, crafts, clothing, musical instruments, photo exhibits
and other demonstrations of the rich history and practices of the Filipino culture.
4. Recognition of Sakadas (Filipino Laborers) -All living Sakadas of the plantation era will
be invited along with their descendants to be recognized for their contributions to the
overall culture Hawaii County exhibits.
5. Plantation Daze - a bit of "everything plantation" will be shared through pictures,
displays and memorabilia along with the opportunity to "talk story" with the `living
?egends Sakadas'; and
WHEREAS, the Hamakua Filipino Centennial Committee, via the Big Island Filipino
Community Council, has requested funding assistance in the amount of $4,000.00 for these
specific program events; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Reseazch and Development has concurred that it will
accept the transfer of these monies for that express purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth
below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to
make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
