PRESERVING PUNALU'U MEANS A BETTER FUTURE FOR KA'U
By preserving Punalu' u as Cultural Preserve and Living Classroom we will create
better jobs through educational careers and a stronger economy for Ka' u and
the island of Hawa!*i by building partnerships with leading educational
institutions around the world. The Living Classroom Outdoor Campus will offer
"hands on learning" in: * Animal Science * Aquaculture * Forestry * Plant
Pathology * Plant Physiology * Soil Science * Recreational Management
* Astronomy * Biology * Chemistry * Geology * Marine Science * Natural Sciences
* Physics * Anthropology * Geography and Environmental Studies * Hawaiian
Culture and History * Hawaiian Studies * Hawaiian Arts * Hawaiian Language
and Pacific Islands Studies.
The Campus, designed as "outdoor" Hawaiian style pavilions would include a
Visitors Program that would be centered around a state-of-the-art Cultural
Center, Theater and Cultural Marketplace that would offer foods, arts and
unique home-grown products from the people of Ka' u. This would create
additional job opportunities and a revenue stream for local farmers,
entrepreneurs and artisans. Visitors from around the world will be able to
become part of the "living classroom" experience.
First, we must come together to stop Sea Mountain V, a Beverly Hills investment
firm, who wants to turn PUNALU' U (the only public beach in Ka' u with easy
access) into a luxury "eco" five star resort with over 1,800 homes, a shopping
center and hotel.
Working together we can STOP this development, preserve Punalu' u forever as a
living classroom and essential gathering place for local families and fishermen.
