Subject: Support for Bill No. 309 (Amendment E-4)
Dear Chair Higa and members of the Hawaii County Council:
I support Jacoby Development and its plans for a mix-use marina facility on
the lands surrounding Honokohau. I am an ocean recreational user and
although I representing myself with this testimony, I am active with Kai Opua
Canoe Club and the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association.
Let's face it, our harbors in this State will not see any expansion anytime
soon. In reality, Jacoby Development's mix-use marina is probably the only
opportunity this island will have for the next forty to fifty years. This 800-slip
marina is needed now.
Jacoby Development wants to build a road in the first phase of this multi-
phased development that will immediately help Kona's traffic. Let's clear the
way for them to do this.
Bill 309 (Amendment E-4) will change all the DLNR land adjacent to the
Honokohau Small Boat Harbor, including the Kona Kai Ola project site, from
"Open" to "Urban Expansion Area." Please support this.
