SUBJECT: Resolution 432-06, aft 2
Enclosed is Draft 2 of Resolution 432-06, which opposes the proposed commencement of service of
the Hawaii Superferry at Kawaihae Harbor until economic, social, and environmental concerns are
addressed.
Draft 2 inserts language to address concerns about potential negative impacts to significant cultural
resources on Hawaii Island, which were raised by Mr. Curtis Tyler during public testimony at the
October 17, 2006 meeting of the Committee on Human Services and Economic Development.
The proposed Draft 2 amendment reads as follows:
"WHEREAS, HSF visitors may overburden limited recreational resources such
as beaches, surf and diving sites, and parks[; and
WHEREAS the influx of vehicles and visitors due to HSF operations may
negatively impact Hawaii Island's cultural resources especially along the coastline."
