The Honorable Stacy Higa, Chairperson
Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
RE: Emergency Ordinance Related to the Earthquake of October 15, 2006
Dear Chairperson Higa:
Transmitted herewith for the Council's approval is an emergency ordinance authorizing the
Mayor to waive certain requirements of the Hawaii County Code in order to expedite repairs
and reconstruction of buildings and infrastructure damaged by the earthquake that struck
Hawaii Island the morning of October 15, 2006. This bill is modeled after and is similar to
Ordinance No. 00-125 passed by the Council on November 17, 2000 in the wake of the
flooding that occurred on November 1 and 2, 2000.
I ask that this be considered at the special council meeting on October 24, 2006, in order
provide needed assistance to our citizens.
