Dear Mr. Pilago,
I attempted to contact people who wanted to go to the Public Hearing in Kona on Bill 309 when
it was scheduled. Nearly everyone I told about the Tues. in Hilo rescheduling was totally
clueless.
Was there any genuine attempt to inform the public? The only official notification I received
was from you! Thank you.
Monday there was a notice in the classifieds, far too late for anyone to plan to take off work to
videoconference. Due to earthquake issues and Ironman, it was very difficult to contact people
this
week-end to tell them about the hearing. For many people I knew who were concerned I had
only an address. There was no time to mail out information to them. There did not seem to be
any noticeable media coverage they might have seen. Honestly, I don't think this would be
considered adequate in a legal sense in most counties. What is going on exactly?Is this the
normal way the Council schedules "Public Hearings"?
People were very upset. And worse, some sceptical. I was asked repeatedly if e-mailed
testimony would just be deleted. There is a huge lack of faith and trust out there.
So now I ask you- will they fairly record and report faxes and a-mails sent to council
testimony?
Will it be mentioned at the hearing? It is about the only way left for those that did hear about
the hearing to participate. Will it even matter?
