Subject: Council meeting/agenda General Plan
Aloha County Council,
How sad to hear that the council meeting promised for Kona has been moved to Hilo!
In opposing an ordinance requiring half of council meetings be held in W. Hi., Mr. Higa's
argument was that this was unnecessary, if Kona issues were to be discussed, he would
automatically schedule the meeting for Kona.
Mr. Higa has put an exclamation point on the value of his word by this action. Council
has increased the divide between east and west. I have long felt that deficiencies in county
government should be repaired; I am now thinking that division of the county is the only
viable solution to this sham of a government. Reading the state constitution, it is good to
see that only legislative action is required to achieve this goal.
I could comment on the disrespect that the proposed actions, before adoption of the CDP,
will show, and that the council is being cowardly in holding this meeting in Hilo, knowing
how important it is to the people of W.Hi. who will bear the impact of the proposed actions.
But I shall not after years of hoping that council would listen to the people who elected
them, Mr. Higa's reprehensible prejudicial leadership has led me to give up on our present
county government.
Marshall Blann
