Higa, Council Chair and Council Members ~ .tee FROM: Civil Defense Agency ~ co RE: FINAL REPORT " 0 Name of Grant Program: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Federal or State Grantor: Federal Emergency Management Agency County Grantee Department or Agency: Civil Defense Agency Grant No. (IF KNOWN): EMF-2003-GR-0363 Amount of Grant: $30,000.00 Amount of County Match: $0.00 County Revenue Account Number: 010-3303.35 / 010-241-5241.45 Grant Period (Commencement & Completion): August 1, 2003 to March 31, 2006 Goals: To provide Hawaii County citizens an opportunity to participate in the Community Emergency Response Team volunteer program to prepare themselves for emergencies and to assist their communities in saving lives and protecting property during natural or man-made disasters, as directed by Hawaii County Civil Defense. Objectives: To conduct CERT Train-the-Trainer courses to prepare program managers and instructional teams from communities who will expand the CERT training program; and to continue to initiate, organize, train, and maintain CERTs and to use the teams as an emergency management resource and as a volunteer pool to perform special projects that improve preparedness of Hawaii County. Outcomes or Results: The first CERT class has been completed in the South Kona district. Training for the Ka'u, Puna and Hilo districts are being planned accordingly.
