RESOLUTION NO. 524 06
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING HAWAII ISLAND VISITORS BUREAU AS THE
INTENDED RECIPIENT OF APPROPRIATED FUNDS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT'S TOURISM PROMOTION ACCOUNT
WHEREAS, on July 5, 2006, the Council approved Ordinance 06-79, the Operating
Budget for fiscal year July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007; and
WHEREAS, an appropriation of $550,000 to the Department of Research and
Development was approved with the understanding that the Hawaii Island Visitors Bureau
(HIVB) was the recipient; and
WHEREAS, the Finance Department, Purchasing Division has determined that the
Operating Budget appropriation did not specify that HIVB was the intended recipient of funding
pursuant to 103D-102 (b}, HRS; and
WHEREAS, the Council minutes reflect and confirm that HIVB was the recipient of said
appropriation; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that HIVB has produced positive impacts to visitors and
kama`ainas by spreading aloha and goodwill, and the direct and indirect benefits that emanate
from HIVB's efforts far exceed this appropriation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it designates Hawaii Island Visitors Bureau as the intended recipient of
$550,000 currently appropriated in the Department of Research and Development's Tourism
Promotion Account No. 010.161.5161.60.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Finance, Purchasing Agent; Director of Research and Development
and George Applegate, Executive Director of I-Iawai`i Island Visitors Bureau; and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
