Aloha Council Members;
I have lived in Malulani Gardens for nearly three years. This
has been a safe and quiet community with easy access to work
and town.
It has recently come to my attention that there is a plan being
considered to open the area behind my home for heavy
construction vehicles to access the property to the south for
development purposes.
I'm not sure if you have seen this area, but if you have you
know that it would be totally unsafe for those of us living in
this area to have large construction vehicles traveling on this
unpaved road. I have attached pictures to help show the
problems we could be facing if this is allowed. As you can see
our homes are less than 10 feet, in some areas, from the
proposed road. There is also less than a 2 inch lip on the edge
of the road. If a truck were to get out of control it would come
crashing into our bedrooms.
There is also the problem with safety of the rock walls holding
up the road. My property is adjacent to and below the wall on
the makai side. Since the earthquake I have noticed some areas
that appear to be cracked, my neighbor tells me there are areas
where water is flowing through the walls on their property.
Imagine the stress that will be added to the walls if heavy
construction vehicles are allowed to add extra weight and
stress to these already compromised walls. Was this area 'j(p~p.2S

engineered for use with large construction equipment? It does
not appear to be.
If any of you have lived in a construction area you know the
incredible amount of noise and dirt, dust and flying rocks that
are produced by trucks and construction. I am not opposed to
people using there land but it should not be a safety risk to
their neighbors.
There is also financial effect this proposal will have. At the
present time there are three houses for sale on this street
adjacent to this sight. As a realtor, I know this is a major issue
in decreasing the value and possible sale of these properties.
Who will compensate these landowners for the loss of value
and extended days on the market, as a result of opening a
construction road next to their homes?
I understand there is an alternative road that could be used at
the top of Malulani Drive that is not as dangerous.
Please do not allow us to be put at risk when there is an
alternative that is safer and available. I'm sure Stanford Carr
development company, can afford to do the right thing and
provide an alternative road that is not a hazard to our safety
and well being.
