Proposed Change to Effective Date
With consideration for those agencies, departments and other entities that will require some time
to transition to a new and different set of regulations regarding animal control, I would like to
amend Bill 258, Draft 3 to read:
"SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall take effect [upen its appreval] March 11.2007."
This amendment, provided it is accepted by Council, should provide ample time for any agency,
department or other entity to become familiar with any changes from our current code and then
apply new protocols and infrastructure as required to satisfy any alterations from our current
regulations.
I am proposing the l lth of March, rather than March 1, due to the fact that the Finance
Department will be distributing approximately 8,500 requests for renewals next month for dog
licenses expiring on December 31. Dog owners will have until March 10 to renew. Therefore,
March 11 would be a logical date to implement a new fee schedule.
