SAFE COMMUNITY HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAM
QUARTERLY REPORT
PROJECT TITLE:HCPD TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION PROGRAM/PT06-Ol (03-H-O1)
Priority Area: I Area: Alcohol Countermeasures
The goal of this project is to improve speed and alcohol related fatal traffic crash
investigations, prosecution efforts and conviction rates by obtaining training and
equipment.
3. Purchase four caution warning signs for officers to use while at investigation sites.
4. Four (4) Traffic Enforcement Officers tc attend the Following courses:
• Inspection and investigation of Commercial Motor Vehicle Crashes.
• Basic reconstruction of Crash Investigations.
• Advance reconstruction of Crash Investigations.
GRANT PERIOD RESULTS:
(FINAL REPORT)
• Four Traffic Caution Warning signs have been purchased and assigned to the
Traffic Enforcement Unit to be utilized during crash investigations on the
roadways.
The following courses have been completed by Traffic Enforcement Officers:
July, 2006 (Four Officers) Two week Basic Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation.
August , 2006 (Four Officers) Two week Advanced Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation
August-September, 2006 (Three Officers) Two week Pedestrian and Bicycle Crash
Investigation
One Officer attended the Inspection and Investigation of Commercial Motor Vehicles,
Level One Training, sponsored by the Department of Transportation.
The training objectives of this grant period were surpassed due to the availability of
Mainland Expert Instructors.
However additional fiords were requested because these specialized investigation courses
were two week courses, instead of 40 hour courses that had been budgeted for. As a
result, an additional $8,000 dollars was requested to cover expenses. The amount was
granted.
