Murashige, Laura

From: Three Ring Ranch [animals@threeringranch.org]
Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 11:55 AM
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us

Cc: palmtree7@earthlink.net
Subject: please hold the planning meeting in KONA

Aloha Hawaii County Council Persons,
Please hold the planning meeting on Bill 309 in KONA as promised. And hold the final meeting in Kona in
December once the new members of the Council have taken office. It is not fair to the people of Kona who are
going to be most effected by this proposal to only hold the meetings in Hilo.

There are several issues on this proposal that have not been evaluated.
As Konas rehabber of native and endangered species I can say that this area is most sensitive. The EIS study
done paid for by the Jacoby team does not address the many endangered species that use this land. I have
personal, first hand knowledge of the Hawaiian stilts, Hawaiian coot and several species of shearwaters that use
this area. I have them on film on this land. I have cared for several birds on this land and released others once
healed to this area. To doze it down and create a Disney Land type area of "swim with the fish" lagoons for
tourists will completely eliminate the areas these endangered species find vital to breed, feed and rest. This is
against the law. As you have heard me testify before the law states that no person shall kill, harm or make these
endangered species lose vital habitat. Vital habitat are areas where these species roost, feed and breed. This has
not been addressed by any reports on file for this project.
Please halt any further discussion on this project until this issue can be studied and addressed. You know I am
not against development only against development that does not take into account the fragile ecology which all
living things share. Allow the time to study this land and come up with a plan that benefits all. I am willing to
evaluate the area and write up recommendations as I did with the Palamanui project. Hopefully this will protect
the creatures and allow reasonable development.
Regards,
Ann
Three Ring Ranch Exotic Animal Sanctuary
Kona, Hawaii
Ann Goody, Curator
_www.threeringranch.org

614 q
Re".
