REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND <br /> INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS <br /> <br /> DATE: October 3Q 2006 RE: Comm. No. 1080/Reso No. 464-06 <br /> <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> <br /> TIME: 11:00 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred <br /> Resolution No. 464-06, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 464-06, transmitted by Hawaii County Council Member Bob Jacobson, via <br /> Communication No. 1080, dated September 11, 2006, states a need for the Hawaii County <br /> Council to support efforts that address public interests and community needs for local media, <br /> including news, access, and ownership. <br /> There was no testimony from the public regarding the proposed resolution. <br /> Council Member Gary Safarik requested further clarification regarding other existing legislation, if <br /> any, and how this resolution would interact with said legislation. Council Member Dr. Fred C. <br /> Holschuh asked if Mr. Jacobson sought input from HSAC (Hawai`i State Association of Counties) <br /> regarding its position on this resolution. Mr. Jacobson replied that he had not. Council Vice Chair <br /> Virginia Isbell stated that she supported the basic premise of the resolution, but needed more <br /> information before the next meeting. Committee Members agreed that more information regarding <br /> this resolution was necessary before the next meeting. Mr. Jacobson stated that he will have his <br /> staff provide all requested information and clarification to all Council Members prior to the next <br /> meeting.
