My name is Ali'i Sir Robert C. McKeen Jr, K.C.K., Kaka'tllelo ,the talking Chief of
the Royal Order of Kamehameha I from the Mamalahoa Chapter No. 2 here in Hilo.
We aro of an unbroken Tina of successors dating back to 1865 and our founder King
Kamehameha V. We are celebrating our 96th Anniversary here in Hilo and presently
convene our meetings at Kamehameha Hall in Keaukaha which has been designated a
National Historic Site as well as a State Historic Site.
On behalf of my Ali'i Aimoku Ali'i Sir Paul K.Nevas, K.C.K., our 68 members and
their 'ohana we would like to voice our absolute concurrence and support for amending
Art 1, Chapter 2 of the Hawaii County evde 1983(1985 Edition) to encourage the
proper use and spelling of our'olelo malfuahine, our mother tongue. As you are well
aware the Hawaiian language Is growing at a fantastic rate and our people of all
backgrounds are benafrting from this educational explosion. Hilo may already be
touted as the Hawaiian language center of the world. Hare Is another golden
opportunity to show your commitment. We are confident that you will recognize a
commitment to excellence that our Kupuna insisted on, by using the native language
properly. In Dosing may we ratttind each other that we do indeed share a rich heritage,
let us share it in homes, our streets, our places of worship whero we rocreate end more
espeaally in the daily business of our governing bodies.
