Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 1078, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 1078, transmitted by Dir~.ctor of Finance William Takaba, dated
September 14, 2006, authorizes the acceptance of donations from the Volcano School of Arts
and Science.
The Volcano School of Arts and Science, Ms. Marilyn Heistand and Grade 3 class has graciously
donated $500.00 to the Department of Parks & Recreation Aquatics Division. The purchase of
water polo equipment (two junior water polo goals and water polo balls) will be used by the
Pahala community children for water polo practice and competition at the Pahala Pool.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(c), Hawaii County Code, any donation or
gift which does not fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance shall
be submitted to the Council by letter for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to the Vol.;ano School of Arts and Science, Ms. Marilyn
Heistand and Grade 3, P.O. Box 895, Volcano, Hawaii 96785, acknowledging these generous
donations.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the acceptance of the $500.00 donation from the
Volcano School of Arts and Science, Ms. Marilyn Heistand and Grade 3.
