This county park is the only place on the Big Island that is
open to the public for the shooting of shotguns. Utilization is up over years
past. BITC also has hosted Boy Scout Troops, High School programs and
other community organizations at the range. A

BITC has been putting on an annual State Shoot under the rules of the
Pacific International Trap Association (PITA) for the last 3 years. Prior to 2
years ago we also held the Amateur Trap Association (ATA) annual State
Shoot here in Hilo. We no longer have the ATA Shoot in Hilo in part due to
participant dissatisfaction with our equipment.

During the last 3 years we have held the PITA shoot and hosted
approximately 30-35 shooters from all over the mainland and 20 or so
shooters from within the state. They have come from Canada and as far
away as Georgia. Everyone has a really fine time on the Big Island. The
mainland folks and our local shooters from off island come with families
and rent cars and hotel rooms. The shoot takes place over 5 days. This adds

up to a significant economic impact for the county and a great way to get
additional visitors to the islands.

II L
Comm. No.
Ref.
