~a
August 22, 2006 C7 'Tti3 N4
Council Chair and Council Members, -
22 Aupuni st.
Hilo, HI, 96720

Dear councilman Higa,
My name is Keisha Bondaug, I am a senior at Hilo High School. We have been '
discussing Bill 300. I don't really get why you guys want to ban drinking at the public
beaches and parks. PUBLIC is the key word, the beaches and parks are open to the
public for enjoyment and a place to just kick back with family and friends.
I understand when you guys mentioned the fact that people can get out of control
when they drink at the beaches but how many times were there ever huge fights that
endangered other people? How much times did the police go to the beaches because of
someone acting out of control? If this bill passes then the police would have to be at the
beaches and parks at all times. Making alcohol illegal at the beach isn't going to stop
people from drinking there; it's only going to cause way more problems and confusion.
Having angry people at the beaches isn't what people want. If this bill is passed it's like
you are taking away peoples rights. People have rights to drink at the beach, if they get
out of control and start disrupting the public then get the cops down there and take that
person away. Don't punish so many people over someone else's mistake.
Please take my thoughts about Bill 300 into consideration and think about what I
said. People would be so much happier and there wouldn't have to be cops on patrol at
the beaches at all times. Mahalo for your time.

Always,'Keieisha Bondaug

Comm Nb. 1 ~ • J 1
Ref.
