I am a homeowner who lives in Ahualoa that has been dealing with the
neighborhood dogs for 10 years; I have lived here for 14 years. We have had 3
unwanted litters, all of which my female dog has been tied up, we have made
complaints to the owners and to the Humane Society with no results, We were told
that if we were to take the responsible party to court we would loose because we
did not fix our dog, I also took pictures of my dog being tied at the time of
conception in my property, but that did not change anything. The next litter gave
us 16 puppies, and the last litter she had 4 puppies, but because she was so young
she didn't know what to do and we ended up bottle feeding them every hour day and
night for 2 weeks, we tried to get the other owner to help us with it because we
were going on Vacation, he said that he would watch them, but as soon as I told him
that he had to feed them every hour he replied with " I can't do that because I
work".. We had hundreds of dollars in vet bills because of these puppies. Because I
am an animal lover I just could not let these puppies die. We had to give our female
rottweiler away to make sure that we didn't have this problem again. We now only
get male dogs from the Humane Society that's already fixed. My next problems
has been crapping in my yard, dogs with mange, chasing our cars and barking and
howling at all hours of the night. I don't expect the dogs to be quite all day and all
night, but if you have a dog that barks for no reason as a responsible dog owner you
should have respect for the people that live around you... We ourselves have bought
a collar that controls excessive barking, we have also put up a fence and a gate to
keep the dogs out. My most recent incident (yesterday), I was in my house and
heard screaming and dogs barking (including mine) I went to the top of my driveway
and saw 4 or 5 of the neighbors dogs mauling something, at first it looked like a
small child, I yelled for my husband to go and check, by this time I realized that it
was a black pig with white hooves, which at first I thought that it was a small child
with black pants and white socks, This was the end of me tolerating these dogs, I
called the Humane Society and made a report.
I don't think that with a leash law we should have to go to these extremes for
irresponsible dog owners. If Hawaii would have harsher laws and actually enforce
these laws, and have higher fines maybe irresponsible dog (animal) owners would
HAVE to become responsible owners.
