Subject: NO on Bill 309
NO TO GENERAL PLAN AMENDMENTS E-4 (SONOKORAUIREAr.AIKEBE COASTLINE)
AND F-2 (EEALAIEKUA SAY PALI) . No large changes should be made to the General Plan until
the Kona Community Development Plan (CDP) is complete (sometime next year). Bill 309 would upzone an
area above Kealakekua Bay for private development and upzone hundreds of acres of largely public,
conservation-zoned, coastal land near Honokohau Harbor to make it easier for Jacoby Development Inc to have
their way with it.
These changes help developers - not residents or the natural environment. Native Hawaiian culture as well
as Hawai'i's fragile natural environment are at risk if these amendments are made to the General Plan. In fact,
these changes go against the input of hundreds - if not thousands - of Kona residents who have asked
(through the Community Development Plan process as well as numerous public hearings over the years) that
shoreline areas be protected from unnecessary, rampant, soul-destroying, environmentally degrading, private,
over-development.
Stop ramming further development down the throats of the Kona community!
Thank you,
Peter Hain
