RE: Support for Bill No. 309 (Amendment E-4)
Dear Chair Higa and members of the County Council,
I support Jacoby Development's plans for a commercial mixed-use marina.
I've been in the outdoor recreation field and sport fishing industry for
most of my career. As a sport fishing tournament organizer. I am excited
about the potential of a mixed use marina development here in Kona.
This community has asked for and has needed an expanded marina for
several decades. It's our chance for a marina that highlights our maritime
heritage and a model project for environmental and cultural stewardship.
At the same time, I have reservations about the traffic impact a project
of this size could create. With that said, Jacoby Development's plan to
complete the Kuakini Highway extension to Kealakehe Parkway will
connect the Kealakehe area with Kailua, and that's a good thing.
I ask you to pass the Planning Director initiated Bill 309 changing the
lands surrounding Honokohau harbor from "Open" to "Urban Expansion."
