Hawaiian Standard Time From: GMGlenvs(a,webtv.net To: counciltestimony(a)co.hawaii.hi.us Relating to Smoking in Certain Places in the County of Hawaii Council Hearing Dec.20,'06 Dec. 19, '06 My name is Glenys Spitze and I strongly support Bill 365 which would prohibit smoking in Kahaluu Beach Park. I highly commend the council for addressing this important issue. The Hi.State second hand smoking law, one of the strongest in the US, recognizes the hazards of exposure to second hand smoke for work places & partially enclosed public places. However, our own health and that of children is endangered by permitting smoking at our beaches and all parks. Discarded cigarette & cigar butts are not only dirty, unsightly, & polluting but are particularly hazardous to small children handling and poisonous to the fish when high tides sweep the sand into the water. Important to me as a PPS survivor with breathing problems and life- threatening sensitivity to tobacco smoke, ETS restricts my access to swim, my only exercise, in the ocean at Kahaluu where I would like to snorkel.. Please accept this as my written testimony in support of the bill. Mahalo for your attention. Glenys Spitze Hawaii Post Polio Survivors Comm. No. Zlo•38 Ref. To: M6410''A Ref. Dota
