Martin, PhD. I am a resident of Kailua-Kona and I strongly support Bill 365, which would prohibit smoking at Kahalu'u Beach Park. The Council is commended for addressing this important issue of having a cleaner beach park to enjoy. Each effort taken and each policy created to maintain the pristine quality of our natural environment benefits us all, residents and visitors alike, for generations to come. In addition to the prevention of illnesses caused by second-hand smoke for fellow beach-goers, I believe that this bill will deter careless smokers from treating the sands of Kahalu'u Beach Park-the sands in which we lie, sit, and walk on-as if it is a huge ashtray. I strongly encourage the Council to pass this ordinance. Please accept this as written testimony in support of this bill. Sincerely, Darlene E.
