HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 1155.005 2004-2006 Mr. Chairman and members of the Council: Good morning! My name is Walter Ita. I am 73 years old and have been a resident of O'okala for 69 years. I worked for the various sugar companies for 43 years until the final harvest in 1994. For those of you who have never lived close to a sugar mill, you don't know what you have to go through. It was horrible! There were times the freshly washed clothes hanging outside on the clothes lines had to be washed over again because of all the soot from the mill. We experience all kinds of winds here, living on the windy coast. Daily, we had dust covering our homes, muddy roads, smelly and constant noise. Now that the sugar mill has been closed for 20 or more years, the environment is so clean, the days are so quiet and peaceful, the ocean so blue without that patch of dirt water. Mr. Don Bryan is making every effort to convince us that we need his veneer mill and power plant in the middle of our residential community. He THINKS he knows whatsgood for us. He reminds me of a car salesman who just has to make a sale, so offers all sorts of "extras" to make it more enticing. Well, the majority of O'okala homeowners are NOT buying. Mr. Bryan somehow got the impression that our friendly Hawaiian way of conversing with him is an approval of his plans. He is mistaken. Please help Mr. Bryan find an alternative site. Then everyone wins! Thank you! S S S Comm. No. Ref. To: resem" Ref. Date Walter Ita, P.O. Box 67, Ookala, HI 96774 (8A8)962-6296
