Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
Representing four local chalpters, the Big Island Farm Bureau
stands united with the stat~a-wide Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation,
the local Hamakua Chapter and the community in urging that public
lands, formerly held by Hamakua Sugar Company, be considered for
use by small local farmers and ranchers.
Good land, water and suppor': infrastructure are key to building a
sustainable agricultural industry in the Hamakua/North Hilo area.
The public has called for public resources to be directed to
providing our residents with opportunities to build a sustainable
future for themselves. Our residents want to work the land as
family farms and ranches, and we urge this body to do its part to
create and support efforts ~_owards this end.
