This is in response to the article in TAest Hawaii Today
inviting comments on the use of Hamakua land.
I have been a resident of '{alopa (HOnokaa) and still own a
rental unit there. My experience has been that the land,
rainfall and climate are best suited for timber. If
residents want to farm they should do so as there is more
than 2nouyh Hamakua land available. However, so far, I have
seen mostly timber and papaya plantings.
Although I own property in Kalopa I don't think that County
land there should be for the exclusive use of Kalopa or
Honokaa residents. If it can be farmed by others or can be
used for the benefit of residents in other parts of the TiiJ
Island I think it should.
