Re: Support for Resolution #309-98
Dear County Council Members:
The Friends of Hamakua, representing approximately 500 members, offers
this testimony in support of our Councilman Dominic Yagong's Resolution
#309. We have already submitted the joint statement representing
thousands of Hawaii citizens in support of leasing these county lands for
diversfied farming.
We support our local people's ability in creating a sustainable and healthy
community through diversification of our Hamakua lands. We humbly ask
you to support the people's needs for fair, equitable lease rates in order to
farm this land in question. To trade this large, arable acreage for small
urban acres is not a wise choice. The local people can make good use of
this land, why not give t1~ an opportunity?
