Re: Support of Resolution # 332-98
Dear Chairman and Council members:
Please support Resolution# 332-98 as it specifies the leasing of Paauilo
mauka lands that are important for the efforts of diversified farming in
Hamakua. The remaining 2400 acres have the ability for diverse disposal
as the county sees fit.
As you are aware, K56E already has large land holdings in Hamakua, in
order to lease these lands is very expensive. The community is sensitive
to the needs of our farmers and ranchers to be able to lease lands from
different sources, i.e. the County. Perhaps the County could arrange for
farmers to lease to own these lands it that is in keeping with the
Council's decision.
Please give our public an opportunity for these lands as KSBE already has
so much. Can't the Council condemn park or public access land? Why
should we trade good arable land for public land that we are already using
or could acquire in a better more sustainable manner?
