Re: Hawaii Fire Department Donation
Enclosed is a resolution accepting a monetary donation of $2,000 from Wal-Mart Hilo,
325 E. Maka'ala Street, Hilo, Hawaii 96720. These funds, donated as part of Wal-Mart
Hilo's "Safe Neighborhood Grant" program, will be used towards the purchase of
educational materials to be distributed to the public in commemoration of Fire
Prevention Week and of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week.
Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating
the $2,000 monetary donation into the Fire Department's Fire Prevention OCE account.

A. REQUEST:
Prepare a resolution to accept a monetary donation of $2,000 from Wal-Mart Hilo. Please send a copy of
the resolution acknowledging this donation to Mr. Terrance Crowley, Manager, Wal-Mart Hilo, 325 Makaala
St., Hilo, Hawaii 96720.
Prepare a complementary ordinance as follows:

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Wal-Mart Hilo, through its corporate "Safe Neighborhood Grant" program, has donated $2,000 to the Hawaii
Fire Department. The funds are to be used by the department in promoting safety awareness relating to its
mission of providing Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The bulk of these funds will be
used to purchase educational materials to be distributed during Fire Prevention week in the month of
October, and EMS Week in the month of May.
