RESOLUTION NO. 26 `
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, Kahua Na`au A`o, founded in 1981, is a community based non-profit
organization that promotes traditional cultural practices through teachings of resource
management and artistic expression to Hawaii Island youths of all ages; and
WHEREAS, the Shiro-Taka Kenpo Karate School of Self-Development is a
collaborative partner of Kahua Na`au A`o, and provides at-risk youths in the community with
substance abuse education and prevention through self-defense discipline training and exercise
techniques integrating social, cultural and family values; and
WHEREAS, at-risk juveniles who are academically and/or behaviorially challenged,
who have anger management adjustment issues, and/or are involved with drugs and drug use, are
referred to the program by Konawaena Intermediate and High School counselors and teachers,
probation officers, social workers, Catholic Social Services and Family Court; and
WHEREAS, the Shiro-Taka Kenpo Karate School of Self-Development requires funding
to continue its at-risk youth program, substance abuse prevention and education through
disciplines of self defense, in-service learning projects, parent meetings, equipment purchase and
travel expenses; and
WHEREAS, discretionary funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the
Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to be used as a grant towards Shiro-Taka Kenpo Karate
School ofSelf-Development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth
below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
forward a copy of this resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and the Director of Finance and
that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance
with the terms of this resolution.
