Good Morning,
My name is Louise Hanna and I owe a 6.5 acre coffee farm in Honomalino Acres in South Kona. I
love my trees and I love my Kona Coffee and I am proud to cup it for the specialty product it is.
I am writing today to support Resolution #18-06 which will protect the Kona name by requiring
that at least 75% of the beans in a bag of coffee must be from Kona before the Kona name can
be on the label of that bag. And further that the origin of the remaining 10% of the beans must
be
It is well known that your can not blend up in quality.
That is to say you will only taste what is the majority coffee in the bag.
With only 10% Kona in the bag you cannot taste Kona coffee, and it that unique Kona taste that
we have to sell.
When 10% Kona blends disappoint in flavor, they damage the reputation of Kona Coffee as a
premium specialty coffee.
On the world market you never hear a 10% Columbian Coffee blend being offered, or a 10%
Brazilian Coffee. Coffees are known by their place of growth and are always marketed as 100%
as the desired product so that the consumer knows what they are getting.
I ask for your support in protecting the integrity and market of this unique Kona, Hawaiian
product, namely Kona Coffee.
Your decision is important because supporting protecting our Kona Coffee product must begin at
the local level.
